L'idea originale di “Rent a Local Friend” è stata concepita da Alice, una giornalista brasiliano-portoghese che dopo anni in giro per il mondo, ha capito che per scoprire una città e i suoi piacevoli segreti bisogna vivere il vero spirito del luogo a contatto con i suoi abitanti, la sua gastronomia, la cultura e i suoi gioielli nascosti.

Nei suoi viaggi Alice si è resa conto che incontrando amici del luogo sempre diversi riusciva a fare esperienze più autentiche e approfondite.
Scoprire le città come “abitante d'adozione”, piuttosto che come turista, era davvero un modo fantastico di viaggiare! Alice ha così ha deciso di estendere anche ad altre persone la possibilità di muoversi con questa filosofia.

Visto che l'idea incontrava l'entusiasmo di molti, Alice ha coinvolto alcuni amici - accomunati da un modo simile di vivere e di vedere il mondo - invitandoli a partecipare al progettoIl gruppo, assolutamente multiculturale, che ne deriva e’ composto da professionisti freelance quali giornalisti, designer, fotografi, insegnanti…ed ogni altra persona che ami la sua città sopra ogni cosa e che sia felice di condividerne il meglio con visitatori da ogni parte del mondo.

È nato così un gruppo formato da persone che si potrebbero definire:
